A Museum Celebrating the Bridge and the Region
Ohnaruto Bridge connects Shikoku with Awaji Island, forming an important link in the route between Shikoku and mainland Japan. The memorial museum was established to preserve the story of this major engineering achievement and explain its significance to future generations.
Beyond the bridge itself, the museum introduces the rich natural environment, history, and traditions of Tokushima Prefecture. Through interactive exhibits and immersive attractions, visitors of all ages can explore the region in an engaging and entertaining way.

At “Play the Eddy!”, visitors can experience an interactive digital art environment inspired by the swirling currents of the Naruto Strait. The installation responds to visitors’ movements and sounds, generating colorful digital whirlpools that appear across walls, displays, and other surfaces.
Whirlpools and images inspired by Tokushima’s nature and history appear beneath visitors’ feet, revealing interesting facts as they interact with the installation. Special visual presentations appear approximately every ten minutes, adding another layer of excitement to this imaginative space.
Virtual Reality Sightseeing “Tokushima Trip”
“Tokushima Trip” uses virtual reality technology to take visitors on a digital journey to destinations throughout Tokushima Prefecture. Wearing VR headsets, visitors can explore famous sights and experience the region’s scenery from an immersive, first-person perspective.
This attraction is especially appealing to travelers who want to discover more of Tokushima before setting out to explore the prefecture in person.
Discover How Whirlpools Form
The Naruto Strait is internationally renowned for its powerful tidal whirlpools, a natural phenomenon created by differences in water levels and strong tidal currents flowing through the narrow strait.
The museum’s whirlpool exhibits explain the science behind this remarkable phenomenon through models, videos, and easy-to-understand displays. Visitors can learn how the movement of the tides creates enormous swirling currents and why the Naruto Strait is one of the region’s most fascinating natural attractions.
“Uzumaru” Flying Submarine Simulator
The “Uzumaru” flying submarine is a motion-based simulator that gives visitors the sensation of traveling through the air above the Naruto Strait. With views of Ohnaruto Bridge and the surrounding seascape synchronized with the ride, the experience combines movement, scenery, and a sense of adventure.
The simulated journey offers a fun and unusual way to experience the dramatic landscape of Naruto, making it particularly appealing to families and visitors who enjoy interactive attractions.
The Engineering of Ohnaruto Bridge
For visitors interested in architecture and civil engineering, the museum provides detailed information about the construction and structure of Ohnaruto Bridge. Exhibits explain the bridge’s design, the technical challenges involved in its construction, and the engineering methods used to complete this major infrastructure project.
These displays reveal the scale and complexity of the bridge and help visitors appreciate the skill and planning required to build a structure spanning the powerful currents of the Naruto Strait.
Panoramic Views from the Rooftop
The museum’s rooftop features a 360-degree observation area offering sweeping views of the Naruto Strait, Ohnaruto Bridge, and the surrounding coastline.
From this elevated vantage point, visitors can appreciate the impressive scale of the bridge and the beauty of the sea. The observation area is also a wonderful place to take photographs of the landscape and, when conditions allow, observe the whirlpools below.
