A 30-Meter Waterfall in a Green Mountain Valley
Dodoro Waterfall is formed by the Ofujitani River, a tributary of the Handa River. It lies near the boundary between Tsurugi Town and Higash imiyoshi Town. Water plunges from a height of approximately 30 meters, producing the powerful rumble that gives the waterfall its distinctive name.
The surrounding valley is rich in vegetation, and the landscape changes with the seasons. The combination of flowing water, rugged rock, and forest makes this a rewarding stop for nature lovers and travelers exploring the mountainous interior of Tokushima Prefecture.
Dodoro Waterfall Riverside Park
The area around the waterfall was developed into Dodoro Waterfall Riverside Park, with work beginning in 1995 and the park officially opening in 1997. Facilities were designed to help visitors enjoy the scenery comfortably while preserving the natural atmosphere of the valley.
A viewing platform provides a clear look at the waterfall, while two rest shelters offer places to take a break. Tables and chairs are also available near the falls, allowing visitors to sit and enjoy the sound of the rushing water. Walking paths wind through the surrounding landscape, making it easy to appreciate the seasonal plants and views of the valley.
Summer Night Illuminations
One of the park’s special attractions is its seasonal nighttime illumination. From July through the end of August, the waterfall is lit up after dark, creating an atmospheric scene quite different from its daytime appearance.
Light catches the falling water against the darkness of the surrounding mountains, transforming the cascade into a striking visual spectacle. The cooler summer evenings and the illuminated waterfall make this a particularly appealing time to visit. Travelers planning to see the lights should check local information for the current year’s schedule before setting out.
The Ofujitani River and Its Natural Environment
The Ofujitani River belongs to the Yoshino River water system. It rises in the area of Higashimiyoshi Town, flows through Higashimiyoshi and Tsurugi Town, and eventually joins the Handa River, a tributary of the Yoshino River.
The river valley is surrounded by abundant natural vegetation and provides habitat for a variety of plants and birds. In addition to Dodoro Waterfall, the surrounding area contains other scenic spots, including the waterfall at Jurinji Temple. Visitors can enjoy walks and hikes while discovering the area’s streams, wooded slopes, and picturesque valleys.
